Our Story
Who We Are
Sarah and Jenna met in college and became friends right away. After our first year, Sarah transferred schools at the same time Jenna moved off campus. Years later, fate brought us back together when Jenna posted a cat-print rocking chair for sale on Facebook, and Sarah messaged her about it. We couldn’t imagine a more fitting way to fall back into being friends.
Sarah had been volunteering at Cat Tales for a year by the time we reconnected and had already adopted her first cat from the shelter. Jenna joined shortly after, and for the past two years, we spent two nights a week side by side, surrounded by cats and loved every minute of it. When the shelter closed, there was no question: we weren’t done.
Littermates was born out of our shared love of rescue, a few thousand scooped litter boxes, and a friendship that feels like home. We can’t imagine doing this with anyone else, or for anything less than a future full of saved kitty lives and soft purrs.

Cats have always been part of my story. I was raised by a cat lady, surrounded by cats, and I’ve always felt most at peace when I’m with them.
Years ago, I found my soul cat, Fish, at Cat Tales. That connection changed me, and it inspired me to start volunteering as a way to give back to the place that brought so much love into my life. What started as a way to help turned into one of my biggest passions.
Since then, I’ve fostered many litters of kittens, mama cats with their litters, and cats with complex medical needs. I have a deep passion for shelter medicine and feel strongly about helping cats in need however I can, whether it's late-night bottle feeds, administering meds, or giving scared strays a soft place to land.
Littermates is the continuation of that purpose. It’s about second chances, and doing this work with a community who will rejoice over the wins with me and cry over the losses together.

From the moment I could speak, I was talking about cats… literally. My first word was “kitty,” though it sounded more like “key” with exaggerated pointing, and that pretty much set the tone for the rest of my life.
I grew up in Maine, where I spent my childhood collecting bugs, catching tadpoles, and feeding squirrels. Animals have always been at the heart of who I am. My family always had pets, and I learned early on what it means to care for and love them deeply.
Over two years ago, I started volunteering at Cat Tales, and I completely fell in love with cat rescue. It became more than just a hobby, it became a passion. When the shelter closed, I couldn’t imagine walking away from the work, the cats, or the community we built. I wouldn’t be the crazy cat lady I am now without Sarah, and there’s no one I’d rather be crazy with! Cat Tales was the beginning of our story in cat rescue, and Littermates is the next chapter.
